THE WEATHER ON SAINT MARTIN/SINT MAARTEN IS AWESOME. It is an average 80-85 degrees all year round with gentle trade winds which keep the humidity low. The only deviation is in the summertime when the water temperature is higher. This consistent weather forecast of blue skies and clear waters bring smiles to the faces of the people who live and visit Sint Maarten/Saint Martin. The water temperature will range from 78-80 degrees in the winter and 82-84 degrees in the summer. The winds blow a fairly regular 15 knots from mid-November to mid-April, and in the summer thermal effects and tropical waves frequently bring a bit stronger drafts. As in all tropical environments, rain showers are to be expected. They can be intense, but are typically brief. There is no defined rainy season, but one does exist for hurricanes. During the time between July through November, the whole of the Caribbean is on watch for possible hurricanes. Although infrequent, all the islands must remain prepared. Marine weather information is available on a day-to-day basis at every marina's Harbor Master office.

THE ISLAND IS A RECREATIONAL TOURISM ISLAND. This does lead to a more casual atmosphere. Some places may require you to wear a collar shirt and closed toed shoes but for the most part, sandals are fine. If you are planning any special activities, don't forget to bring the appropriate clothing and footwear. In the winter months, it can get a bit cool at night with the tropical breeze (70-75 degrees). You may want to bring a light cover up. English, French and Dutch are the most commonly used languages, then Spanish, Creole and Papiamento. THE UNEXSO DOLPHIN EXPERIENCE - The only park of its kind in the world, the UNEXSO Dolphin Experience is a place where visitors can swim with dolphins who are free to come and go. GARDEN OF THE GROVES - Though the word "groves" suggests lots of trees, this garden was actually named after Wallace Groves. Spread out over 12 acres, it has over 1,000 species of plants and flowers, waterfalls.

HYDROFLORA GARDENS - The attraction of these gardens is as much the process as the product. All the flowers here are grown using the science of hydroponics, in which plants are grown in water rather than soil. There is also a museum dedicated to that most Bahamian of sea shells, the conch.

LUCAYAN NATIONAL PARK - Lucayan National Park covers over 40 acres and four distinct ecological zones. Along with its abundance of plant and animal species, there are also caves you can explore via walkways.

RAND MEMORIAL NATURE CENTRE - Covering an area of over 100 acres, the nature center features over 200 kinds of birds and 400 types of plants.

STRAW MARKET - The Bahamas is well-known for its straw work, and at this market you can find virtually every kind of straw object made in the islands. There are also plenty of carvings and other traditional goods.
